Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), New Delhi

Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), situated in the national capital of New Delhi is one of the most reputed medical colleges in India.

Named after the legendary freedom fighter Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad and established in the year 1961, MAMC now regularly features in almost every list of the top medical colleges in the country.

The history of the college takes one back to the year 1936, when India was still under the clutches of the British. Col. Martin Melvin Curickshank, an officer with the Indian Medical Services was assigned the task of establishing a medical college in Delhi. But before his plans could be put into action, the Second World War started and the whole idea had to be shelved. But during the world war, well equipped barracks with all medical facilities were built for the American soldiers stationed in Delhi and after the war they were handed over to the Indian govt. Theses barracks were later developed into the now famous Safdarjung hospital which was once part of the Lok Nayak hospital associated with MAMC. View More
